Spring Time Skin Care

As you begin to notice that the winter season is coming to an end, and as it transitions into the flow of spring-time, you may also notice that your skin has gone through some changes too. For many that live in areas where winter weather and the elements are harsh on the skin, the 'dry-skin factor' will be what you may notice most. For others it may be the intense itchy skin from too many hot showers for helping to warm up your cold muscles and achy joints. Flaky or dull skin is another example of the ebb and flow of seasonal changes with our largest organ-the skin.

Using natural botanicals and pure essentials oils is a healthy and soothing way to nourish and rejuvenate your skin.

Gentle exfoliation can help to remove dead skin cells and buff your skin to a polished healthy glow, which in turn helps your skin to breathe and begin the rejuvenation process.

Try this DIY Exfoliant Body Sugar Scrub recipe at home:

  • In a stainless steel bowl: Mix 1/4 cup of white sugar with 1/3 cup of raw turbinado sugar.
  • Add the following (2) essential oils to the sugar mix:
  • Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) 4 drops
  • Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) 3 drops
  • Gently stir to mix with the sugar
  • Place 2 ounces of a pure carrier oil into a 4 ounce size jar (perferably an aroma-safe plastic jar to avoid breakage in the shower).  Jojoba is a natural wax base that does not go rancid. Sesame oil is wonderful for  lighter oil coverage, but keep in the refrigerator as it can go rancid in time.
  • Begin to slowly mix in the sugar mix with the carrier oil and stir to create an oily sugar mixture.
  • You can add more sugar if you want a thicker and less oily-type consistency.
  • Place top tighly on the jar and give it a firm shake.

After cleansing your skin in the shower, apply the sugar scrub to your body skin with gentle circular motions. Spending extra time and care on any extra dry areas such as your feet, elbows and hands. Rinse scrub off with warm water and pat dry. Apply an aromatic body oil for all day or night time treatment.

Recipe makes enough for approximately 2-4 full body treatments. Keep out of direct sunlight. Be sure to use up any unused portion of your sugar scrub within 30 days to ensure freshness.

Avoid use on delicate facial areas or newly shaven skin. Keep out of reach of children and pets. For topical use only. If irritation occurs discontinue use.
